Kvetch Haven
Before more people misunderstood "KVETCH" as a person name, perhaps I should explain the meaning a little.
Kvetch actaully meant to complain and whine. This blog named "Kvetch Haven" so that I can complain a little, whine a little about life. Of course, this blog will not be solely on constant whinning and complain.
"Pole Lean-er"
whispered @ Monday, June 27, 2005 by stardusz
Really do not know what term to be placed on people who enjoyed leaning against the poles in MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), well I guess I shall call them pole lean-er.
Ya... Kvetching again... Happened to see this lady while I was travelling to work this morning. She dress fine, she look fine, middle age, should be around 30s... But she got this bad habit: leaning against the pole where people so wanted to grip on when the train jerk.
I tried to grab on to the pole but couldn't do so as this lady was leaning against it.
Well there is nothing wrong with leaning against a pole but please, not during peak hours where tons of people are in the carriage and trying to balance themselves in a moving vehicle.
I do lean against the pole but I will only do it when there is not much people standing. At least I felt that I won't cause anyone any hazard if I lean against the pole during off peak hour.
With a lady leaning against the pole, I think it will cause embarrassment to guys who tried to balance themselves when the MRT jerk. Just imagine, a guy who wanted to balance himself during that moment, grabbed the pole and at the same time grabbed the lady by accident. What will happen? Most probably, the lady might shout molest and the poor man might have a hard time explaining himself.
Well, this is not the first time I see someone leaning against a pole. Seen it too many time and I begin to find that these people are irritants and it is an act of selfishness in a public place.
It actually reminded me of a funny incident when I was doing BMT (Basic Military Training) when I was younger. Some recruits were happily chatting and treating the camp as their home and started to display bad habits like leaning against the wall. Then, a sergeant happened to walk past them and shouted at them, he ordered these few recruits to press their hand against the wall and shout "Help, help! The wall is falling!!" repeatedly. It was a funny scenario but definitely embarrassed the recruits and make them remembered for life.
