Kvetch Haven

Before more people misunderstood "KVETCH" as a person name, perhaps I should explain the meaning a little.
Kvetch actaully meant to complain and whine. This blog named "Kvetch Haven" so that I can complain a little, whine a little about life. Of course, this blog will not be solely on constant whinning and complain.

Major Protest in France

I was watching the news at 10p.m. when this news about France having some major protest caught my attention. I did a search on the internet and found some news about it.

I really find this decision by the French Government weird. Quoting this from IHT:
"That mellow mood reflects the peculiar nature of the nationwide protest against a law that would allow employers to fire workers under the age of 26 without cause within two years.
With Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin determined to put the law into practice, France is bracing for what is being called "black Tuesday" - a day of strikes and demonstrations throughout the nation that could bring two million people out on the streets and paralyze much of the country."

Seriously, I am not from France and I do not know their culture well. But still I find it peculiar and why the PM Dominique de Villepin would make such a move to pass such law.

Doesn't such law effect the economy of the country? Isn't there a worry that there is an increment in umemployment rate that lead to more crimes and more unrest in the country?

Anyway, with such law passed, it has caused a major unrest in the country now. I wonder how the French government is ceased the anger in their citizens now

Living on my Own

whispered @ Monday, March 27, 2006 by stardusz
How many of you are living on your own now or have lived on your own before?

I hope to get this chance to live on my own, manage my own life and be a more responsible adult in the near future (say in 1 to 2 years time). Not to say that I am a kid or what, but I felt that I am still very well shelter in many ways when I am living with my parents.

Ever worry about electricity & water bills, rental, phone bills? Ever fix a broken toilet, change a light bulb, mend a hole in the wall, wash your own clothes or cook a meal? For me, the answer to all these are 'no', even if there is a slight nod as I type, I do not do that often. I only wash clothes and cook a meal once in a while.

Quite a spoilt brat, right? Ha ha, I guess I'll have to agree that I am. However, I do not want to wear that name tag forever. I want to learn to live alone and be independent. I want to learn to take care of myself and "grow up" so that I will be more ready to face life itself.

It's rather late, in term of age (you know, in my late 20s and going to be 30 soon =(), but I think it's better late then never start at all.

Most Singaporeans are very well sheltered and have been living in the comfort zone (living with their parents) till it is time to get married and start "living on their own" with their partner. This is a norm in Singapore culture, in most cases, I guess. However, I think it is because of this kind of environment that make us a whiner in front of others.

In many countries, a lot of parents let their children live on their own in their late teen years or early twenties. This allow their babies grow up and learn to manage their own life. Many Asian parents might felt that it is dangerous for their children to be let out "into the wild" at such "tender age". However, if they are not given a chance to live on their own and learn to manage and be responsible for oneself, I guess most of them will never learn to "grow up" and will always be dependent on others.

I want to live on my own, manage my own life be responsible to my own decision and enjoy freedom, to a certain extend. This, to me, symbolise adulthood and not a birthday celebration on one's 21 year old then get a gold key at the end of the "ceremony".
